Why are interpersonal skills important at work?
We spend most of our day in the office and having strong quality professional relationships at work could potentially increase motivation, performance, productivity, and genuine intentions! Schultze & Badzinski (2015) mention, "our listening becomes shared, aimed at mutual flourishing, and grounded in genuine social identities" (p.44), this is why face- to - face communication is important.
How to face conflict at work?
Any work activity could end in a disagreement and THAT IS OKAY. The challenge is to promote peace with a productive conflict management style. This is significant in a workplace because when we listen with intention, and we reflect on how to accept a new perspective it ends becoming an inviting and cooperative environment. The presence of genuine harmony, understanding and goodwill between people is an example of unity and relational peace.
The art of listening
If we listen to our customers, employees, friends with the sole intention to promote unity, and relational peace - it will us to have a proper perspective within interpersonal communication. As for imperfect humans that we are, if our minds are set to live at peace with one another, then that imperfection evolves in something kind and beautiful.
Communication is power
Misunderstandings and conflict can be solved through communication approach. The power is through the process and our mindsets. The key is having compassion in the communication process by focusing on the facts, speaking with respect, consideration and work limits.
What creates conflict in the workplace?
Jealousy
Lack of recognition
Not working with a mission
Not having honest communication
Lack to recognize the non-verbal cues
Lack to create productive strategies
